Your outings stay yours.

Cardio Trails is built to work without knowing who you are. This policy explains, in plain words, where your data is kept, who can see it, and why.

Who we are

Cardio Trails is an iPhone and iPad app published by Evo Factory (“we”, “us”). We are responsible for the little personal data described here. You can reach us at any time through the contact form.

The short version: you don’t need an account. Your recordings, trail network and health figures are stored on your iPhone, saved to your iCloud account if you use iCloud, and saved to Apple Health if you turn that on. Your GPS location, heart rate and recordings stay yours: they are not shared with us or anyone else unless you explicitly share them with friends or family. We only receive anonymous statistics about how the app is used, and the messages you choose to send us.

Where your data is kept

Everything you create in Cardio Trails is stored in the app’s private storage on your iPhone. If you use iCloud, it is also saved to your iCloud account, kept by Apple, and shared with your other devices. If you turn on the Apple Health integration, your activities are also saved to Apple Health (see below). None of it is sent to us, and you don’t need an account to use the app.

Deleting the app deletes your data from your iPhone. If you use iCloud, you can delete the app’s iCloud data separately, in your iPhone’s Settings, which Apple manages. Anything you chose to save to Apple Health stays in Apple Health until you delete it there.

Location, maps and weather

Cardio Trails uses your location to record your outings and to show where you are on the map. It asks for access while using the app only: a recording you start keeps going when the screen locks, and outside a recording the location is read only while the app is on screen. Your GPS location is never sent to us.

Two Apple services see an area, not your history:

  • Apple Maps. The map is drawn by Apple’s MapKit, which loads map tiles for the area on screen from Apple.
  • Apple Weather. To tell whether the ground is wet or very dry, the app asks Apple’s WeatherKit for recent rain in the area the map shows and where an activity ended.

These requests go to Apple, not to us, and are covered by Apple’s privacy policy.

Apple Health

Cardio Trails works with Apple Health only if you allow it, and only for the kinds of data you approve in the system’s permission sheet.

  • Read: outdoor workouts and their routes recorded by other apps (when you import them), weight, height, date of birth, biological sex, VO₂max, resting heart rate, and heart rate during your outings, including from AirPods Pro.
  • Written: your activities as workouts with their routes, distance, elevation and active energy, and the weights you log in the app if you turn that on.

Health data is used only to provide the app’s features on your device. It is not sent to us, never included in usage statistics, never used for advertising, and never sold or shared with anyone. You can change or withdraw access at any time in the iPhone’s Settings, under Privacy & Security → Health → Cardio Trails.

Anonymous usage statistics

To learn which features are used and where the app runs into trouble, Cardio Trails sends anonymous usage statistics to PostHog, a product analytics service that processes them on our behalf.

What is sent

  • App events, such as the app opening, a screen being shown, a recording started or saved, a feature used, an import finished, or an error
  • App version, iOS version and device model
  • Language and region settings

What is never sent

  • Your GPS location, routes or place names
  • Health and fitness data: heart rate, weight, energy, body measurements
  • Activity titles, notes or ratings
  • Your name, email, contacts or photos
  • The advertising identifier — we don’t track you across apps or websites

The statistics are processed on PostHog’s servers in the European Union. We rely on our legitimate interest in improving the app, using data that does not identify you. You can turn the statistics off at any time in the app’s Settings.

Messages you send us

When you write to us through the support form, we receive your email address, your name if you give it, the details you enter and your message. The form is delivered by Formspree, which forwards it to us by email. We use this information only to answer you and to fix what you report, and we delete it on request.

Private sharing (coming soon)

A future version will let you share outings and trails privately with friends and family. It will be optional and will need an account; what you choose to share will be stored on our servers so that the people you pick can see it. Nothing changes unless you turn it on, and we will update this policy — what is stored, where, and for how long — before the feature is released.

Children

Cardio Trails is not directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has sent us personal data through the support form, contact us and we will delete it.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, including under the EU General Data Protection Regulation, you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal data we hold about you, to object to or restrict its processing, and to receive it in a portable format. In practice, the only personal data we hold are the messages you send us. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.

Changes

If we change how Cardio Trails handles data, we will update this page and its effective date. Significant changes will also be mentioned in the app’s release notes.
